Inspired by a mutual love for science and fashion, seamstress and costumer Jes Reaves and actor/producer and Team Unicorn co-creator Rileah Vanderbilt have partnered together to make Celestial Body Swimwear, which debuted this month with a fashion show at Long Beach Comic Expo. With swimsuits that nod to NASA, STEM and starfields, Celestial Body is geared toward women who embrace their geek and nerd interests, because “what you wear should not only make you feel great, but should also say something about your personality.” And on top of that, they’re giving back to STEM by teaming up with Mind Makers.
The Mind Makers project is a non-profit group that states: “Our mission is to increase STEM accessibility for underserved adults and children through education, outreach and awesome displays of tech teamwork. Our vision is to build a diverse, technology proficient community that values knowledge sharing, redefines possibility and inspires a new generation of engineering enthusiasts.”
A portion of Celestial Body profits will go to support Mind Makers in their mission. Celestial Body Swimwear’s store launched this week and includes three new styles and four colorful prints. All suits are made in Los Angeles, California and promise quality production “with high-end fabrics and materials.” Check them out and follow them on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
